Competitive Researcher, Intelligence Marketing - Greater Boston area

This role is responsible for market and competitive intelligence – managing secondary data and analytic tasks to build market insights that compliment primary research efforts and help inform business planning, business development and marketing goals and objectives.

The Competitive Researcher must be highly collaborative and able to dig into and build a strong analytical understanding of key databases and data sets to develop higher level stories and findings primarily to support analytics related to capital investments and asset management.

Responsibilities

  • Working alongside subject matter experts, become a knowledge expert and data steward for secondary market research tools and resources, including external databases such as Vision LTC, D&B Hoovers, NIC, Advisory Board, other demographics databases, and internal customer-related data.
    • Respond to and track ad hoc business planning and marketing requests to inform on market conditions and planning opportunities
    • Identify project objectives and business requirements
  • Collect, validate, analyze and interpret a broad range of market-related data including: industry, financial, volume, market, and competitive insights needed to develop strategic business plans. Example analyses include: demographic and market trends, SWOT, market share, market sizing/potential, profiling customer and sales prospect data.
    • Develop synthesized market, industry, and competitive intelligence reports, primarily to support investment decisions (new acquisitions, new developments, and renovations/expansions)
    • Track competition in terms of offerings and pricing, and economic data such as housing values, income values, and demographic trends
    • Monitor existing supply and new market entrants
    • Conduct secondary research, including finding information from industry associations, white papers, statisticians and marketing experts. Remain informed on market trends, third party research and implement best practices.
    • Present findings of actionable insights and recommendations to project work teams and other groups
    • As necessary, model market analyses with financial implications to identify opportunities and estimate ROI.
  • In partnership with BI and business counterparts, explore and develop routine reporting to be more automated and turnkey to increase efficiency and effectiveness
    • Research and facilitate enhanced analytical approaches and secondary research methodologies
    • Identify and inform opportunities to align data definitions and reporting approaches
  • As needed, support primary market research needs that include responsibilities such as programming surveys, panel management, data entry, statistically analyzing results and preparing presentation reports.

Qualifications

  • Background in quantitative, strategic marketing, statistics, economics, library science, market analytics, business and/or market research disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of information management, statistics, strategic planning, competitive intelligence and market/marketing analysis. Interest in and experience with B2B and B2C models is preferred, including ability to reliably and creatively build, transform and synthesize disparate data sources (i.e., internal prospect and billing data and external data) to produce meaningful insights
  • 4+ years relevant work experience in competitive intelligence, market analytics, data analytics, market research, strategic marketing, and/or planning.

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and visual storytelling skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Office Suite experience with strong skills in Excel and PowerPoint. Competence in statistical software (SPSS/SaaS), analytical tools (Mapping software, Tableau, PowerBI), Survey tools (Qualtrics), and CRM (i.e., Sherpa, Yardi, Salesforce) or similar programs preferred
  • Demonstrated experience working in a cross-functional role – with capital investments and asset management, marketing, sales, business intelligence, business planning, to inform business strategies
  • Experience in validating and interpreting large amounts of disparate data sets; Ability to learn, leverage, extract, clean, organize, and synthesize a variety of data sets using modern and traditional statistical methods
  • Working knowledge of data warehousing, modeling and mining
  • Familiarity with marketing performance metrics and business research tools
  • Ability to draw conclusions from analyses and make recommendations
  • Attention to detail and high focus on accuracy
  • Ability to transform complex ideas into straightforward presentations
  • Project management and facilitation experience skills
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills
  • A natural curiosity and energetic, creative, and collaborative approach to working and problem solving
